An official website of the Velocity Interoperability Network

About the Archive

The National Archive of the Velocity Interoperability Network keeps the permanent records of the Network: the instruments that established it, the standards it has adopted, the notices published in the Official Register, the maps of its infrastructure and the records of its departments and services. It preserves those records, describes them in a public catalogue and makes them available to anyone who wishes to consult them.

The Archive was established on 6 September 2026, the same day as the departments whose records it holds. Its first accessions were the founding instruments of the Network, the published standards and the first notices of the Official Register. It publishes a catalogue of its holdings, opens exhibitions drawn from them and produces educational games so that the Network's founding rules can be learned through its own records.

The Archive is a service of the Velocity Interoperability Network and is independent of the departments whose records it keeps. Records once transferred are held by the Archive on behalf of the public, and their access status is determined by the rules set out on this site rather than by the department that created them.

Responsibilities. The Archive's work falls into five areas.

Collecting
Agreeing with each department and service of the Network which of its records are of permanent value, and receiving them under a transfer schedule so that nothing of permanent value is lost.
Preserving
Keeping the records permanently, on paper and in digital form, in conditions that allow them to be read, and conserving those that have suffered damage.
Cataloguing
Arranging the records in series, describing each series and publishing the description so that anyone can discover what the Archive holds.
Access
Making open records available to everyone without charge, supplying copies, protecting the personal information in restricted records and operating the reading room.
Exhibitions and education
Presenting selected records with commentary in online exhibitions, and producing educational games so that the founding rules of the Network can be learned through its own records.
